FAQ

How do I access the School’s WIFI network

The school requires that students be given a unique IP address for their laptop. This is to monitor internet activity during school tests and prevent cheating, nothing more. The school is not watching you internet activity. Because of this unique IP address, the school must set up your laptop to work on the network.

Bring you laptop to the Nation Campus on a Monday morning only. Leave it with the academic advisor Jeanine Brami, or the Dean Mr. P. Guillon, or the BBA/MBA admissions office. Please include your name so it can be returned to you, your computer’s login information & password, so the Technician can get to configure your computer to the school’s WIFI network. Pick up your computer at the end of the day, & make sure the WIFI works.

What device should I buy to be able to have WIFI connection in school?

Most current laptops have an inbuilt WIFI network card. But incase your laptop does not have, there are two options here:-

1) You need to buy an 802.11g antenna, which will reach a speed of 54mpbs (that’s fast). You can buy a USB antenna, but if you do, make sure you have a USB 2.0 port. If you have only a USB 1.1 port, the antenna will not go fast as it should. (Max 11mpbs). The other alternative is a card bus (aka PCMCIA) antenna, but for this you need to make sure your laptop has a 32-bit Card Bus slot.

2) Your other option is to buy an 802.11b antenna, which will only reach a speed of 11mbps (that’s not bad). Just buy a Card Bus or USB antenna, whichever you prefer, and it should work with any laptop. This option might be for you, because 802.11b antennas are much cheaper.

Some important things to keep in mind.

1) A USB antenna will get a better signal than a Card bus antenna, because you can move the USB antenna around your laptop.

2)802.11g gets a better signal than 802.11b, and therefore has a greater range.

3)802.11n is a new wireless standard that is coming soon and will work with the school’s network, but only at G speeds.

How do I print at the school’s computer room?

Go to the ‘Bureau de stage’ at the nation1 campus and ask one of the nice ladies there for a carte d’imprimateur. The cards cost 5 Euros and include 100 pages. (Note: if you print on larger than A4 paper, or resize from A3 to A4 paper, the copiers will deduct 2 pages from your card.) These cards can be used on both the copy machines and the printers at the Nation campus. Only 1 computer in each computer lab has a printer attached. Go to this print station, pull up the document you want to print, insert your card, and press print on the computer. Your pages will print out and your card will be deducted. When you are finished, don’t forget to take back your card.

Where can I buy my school books?

SMD is the official bookstore of the BBA program. Located at 1 rue Nicolas Roret, SMD’s friendly staff will help you find all the books for your courses. To get there, take metro line 7 to Les Goblins, and then take exit [1] Boulevard saint marcel. As soon as you exit the metro station, make a U turn so you are walking away from Boulevard Saint Marcel. Take the first street on your left called rue de le Reine Blance, and then the first street on your right is rue Nicolas Roret and on the corner right there is SMD bookstore.
